Organisation Urges Individuals and Communities to Give, Volunteer and Empower the Vulnerable

BTvNEWS: As the world marks the International Day of Charity today, September 5, 2026, BTV Platform for Environmental, Advocacy, Community and Interfaith Engagement (B-PEACE) has called on individuals, communities, organisations and institutions to renew their commitment to giving, volunteering and supporting people facing poverty and vulnerability.

The International Day of Charity provides an opportunity to recognise the importance of humanitarian action and encourage greater solidarity with people and communities in need.

The day also commemorates the legacy of Mother Teresa, whose lifelong humanitarian service to the poor and vulnerable earned her the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. Her work underscored the powerful connection between alleviating poverty, preserving human dignity and advancing peace.

According to B-PEACE, however, meaningful charity must go beyond the distribution of money, food and material assistance.

The organisation maintains that genuine charity should be anchored in fairness, dignity, respect, compassion and empowerment, ensuring that assistance strengthens rather than diminishes the dignity and independence of those receiving it.

B-PEACE believes that responsible giving can help bridge social and economic divides, strengthen local communities, address poverty and vulnerability, and contribute to a safer, more inclusive, resilient and peaceful world.

The organisation therefore urged members of the public to mark the occasion not merely by making donations, but also by volunteering time and skills, supporting community initiatives, empowering vulnerable people and becoming agents of positive change.

“Every act of kindness matters, and every helping hand has the potential to transform a life,” B-PEACE emphasised, calling for collective action to ensure that no one is left behind.
