Bandits Flee Giwa Gun Battle as Police Seize Pump-Action Rifle, Nine Fabricated Firearms and Arrest Four Suspects

BTvNEWS: The Kaduna State Police Command has recorded fresh operational successes across the state, recovering one pump-action rifle, nine fabricated firearms, two suspected stolen vehicles and 332 suspected counterfeit US $100 notes, while arresting four suspects in separate operations.

The Command said the operations formed part of its sustained efforts to deny criminals freedom of movement, protect communities and enable farmers to safely access their farmlands.

According to a statement issued on September 3, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, ANIPR, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, armed bandits were on August 31 sighted disturbing farmers around Kidandan in Giwa Local Government Area.

The DPO Kidandan subsequently mobilised Police Mobile Force personnel attached to APV Kaya and members of the Kaduna Vigilance Service (KADVS) to the area.

The Police said the bandits opened fire on sighting the security team but were forced to flee into the surrounding bush following a response from the security personnel, abandoning one pump-action rifle with two cartridges and a motorcycle.

In a separate operation around Maraban Jos, Police operatives acting on intelligence about suspected gunrunners mounted roadblocks along access routes. The suspects reportedly diverted their vehicles, while others fled into the bush, abandoning nine fabricated firearms.

The Command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

On September 2, Police operatives acting on credible intelligence arrested Hashiru Ibrahim, Mohammed Ibrahim and Umar Hassan at Panteka, Kurmin Mashi, Kaduna.

The suspects were allegedly intercepted while attempting to sell a black GMK Jeep valued at about ₦70 million for ₦4 million. The vehicle was reportedly already being prepared for dismantling and sale in parts.

Preliminary investigation, according to the Police, revealed that Hashiru Ibrahim allegedly stole the vehicle from Abeokuta, Ogun State, where he worked as a driver for a Chinese company.

The vehicle has been secured, while investigation continues to identify other members of the alleged syndicate.

The Command also recovered a white Toyota Hilux allegedly stolen from Agadez, Niger Republic.

Police operatives from the State CID Surveillance Unit intercepted the vehicle in Kaduna on August 31 following credible intelligence.

Verification reportedly established that its chassis number corresponded with that of a vehicle reported stolen in Niger Republic.

A man identified as Abubakar Abdullahi, who was found in possession of the vehicle, was arrested. The vehicle remains in Police custody as investigation continues.

In another operation on August 31, Police arrested Kabir Yusuf, of India Road, Barnawa, Kaduna, following intelligence that he was in possession of suspected counterfeit US currency.

A search reportedly led to the recovery of 332 suspected counterfeit US $100 notes and six counterfeit ₦1,000 notes.

During preliminary investigation, the suspect allegedly confessed to obtaining the currencies from Sahibu Ruhan of Kano State, who is currently at large.

The Command said efforts were ongoing to arrest the alleged accomplice and uncover the wider network behind the circulation of the counterfeit currencies.

The Commissioner of Police commended members of the public for providing timely and actionable intelligence, describing public cooperation as instrumental to the successes recorded.

“These achievements were made possible largely through the support and actionable intelligence provided by good Samaritans,” the Command stated.

The Commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the Police and other security agencies.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustained clearance operations and intelligence-led policing to protect lives and property and make Kaduna State safer for all.
