Peace Walk, Medical Outreach, Lecture to Deepen Police–Youth Partnership, Combat Emerging Security Threats

BTvNEWS: The Kaduna State Police Command has commenced a three-day Police–Youth Engagement Programme to commemorate International Youth Day 2026, with a renewed commitment to strengthening police–youth relations, promoting responsible citizenship, preventing crime and advancing peace and community safety across Kaduna State.

The programme, organized in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, commenced on Thursday, August 20, 2026, with a Walkathon/Peace Walk, and will continue on Friday, August 21, with a Medical Outreach, before culminating in a Lecture and Interactive Youth Engagement Session on Saturday, August 22, 2026.

The initiative is anchored on the theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” and is in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, on deepening engagement with young people and fostering constructive Police–Youth partnerships nationwide.

The initiative recognizes youths as critical stakeholders in crime prevention, peacebuilding, community policing and sustainable development, while creating a platform for meaningful dialogue between young people, law enforcement agencies and other community stakeholders.

The opening Walkathon/Peace Walk brought together police officers, youths, youth organizations, community leaders and other stakeholders in a demonstration of unity and their shared commitment to peace, security and a safer Kaduna State.

Beyond promoting physical fitness and healthy living, the walk was designed to encourage peaceful coexistence, responsible citizenship, community participation and stronger bonds between the Police and the communities they serve.

The second phase of the programme, scheduled for Friday, August 21, will feature a Medical Outreach aimed at providing basic medical services and health awareness to young people and members of the community.

The humanitarian component is expected to further strengthen Police–Public relations by demonstrating the Command’s commitment to community-oriented policing, public welfare and responsive engagement beyond conventional law-enforcement responsibilities.

The programme will culminate on Saturday, August 22, with a Lecture and Interactive Youth Engagement Session, where participants will deliberate on contemporary issues affecting young people and their implications for peace, security and community development.

Discussions are expected to focus on critical issues including crime prevention, cultism, drug abuse, political and digital thuggery, responsible use of social media, youth participation in community policing and other emerging security challenges.

The engagement further reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s broader recognition of the strategic role of young people in preventing crime and promoting sustainable peace, particularly through constructive dialogue, responsible citizenship and active participation in community safety initiatives.

The Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, CP Rabiu Muhammad, psc, mni, has called on youths, youth organizations, community leaders, stakeholders and members of the public to actively participate in the three-day programme.

The Commissioner emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in promoting peace, unity, responsible citizenship and community safety, while encouraging stakeholders to strengthen collaboration with the Police in addressing security challenges confronting the state.

The Kaduna International Youth Day 2026 programme therefore provides a significant platform for building trust, dialogue, mutual understanding and shared responsibility between the Police and young people, with the ultimate objective of fostering a safer, more peaceful, secure and prosperous Kaduna State.
