Two Years Too Long: Kaduna Polytechnic Graduates Demand NYSC Mobilisation

Comrade AbdulHakeem Mutiu Adejumo-Ajeseku Calls for Urgent Action Over Prolonged Delay Affecting Thousands of Eligible Graduates

BTvNEWS: AbdulHakeem Mutiu Adejumo-Ajeseku, CEO and Head of Communication, Research and Strategies, Political, Media, and Public Affairs Analyst at BTV Online TV Radio and Publication, has strongly called on the management of Kaduna Polytechnic, the National Board for Technical Education, and other relevant authorities to urgently address the prolonged delay in the mobilisation of eligible graduates for the National Youth Service Corps scheme.

According to Comrade AbdulHakeem, thousands of graduates from Kaduna Polytechnic’s four campuses — Tudun Wada, Ungwan Rimi, Barnawa, and Sabon Tasha — have remained without NYSC mobilisation for more than two years despite successfully completing their academic programmes and meeting all necessary graduation requirements. He described the situation as unfortunate, deeply troubling, and harmful to the future of affected graduates.

He observed that while graduates from other tertiary institutions who completed their studies within the same academic period have already completed their national service and moved forward with employment opportunities, career development, and postgraduate education, many Kaduna Polytechnic graduates continue to face unnecessary stagnation caused by unresolved administrative bottlenecks within the institution.

Comrade AbdulHakeem further expressed concern over reports alleging that the prolonged delay is linked to the malfunctioning of a bulk signature machine reportedly used for endorsing Senate-approved graduation lists before submission to the NYSC Directorate. According to him, such an explanation raises serious concerns regarding institutional efficiency, accountability, and commitment to the welfare and future of students.

He emphasized that Kaduna Polytechnic, as one of Nigeria’s foremost federal polytechnics with significant internally generated revenue from admissions, tuition, registration, and other institutional charges, should not allow a technical issue of this nature to remain unresolved for such an extended period. He noted that the delay has had severe economic, emotional, and professional consequences on thousands of young Nigerians and their families.

The Political, Media, and Public Affairs Analyst lamented that several affected graduates have reportedly lost valuable employment opportunities because employers required NYSC discharge certificates as part of recruitment conditions. He also stated that many others have missed scholarship opportunities, postgraduate admissions, and career advancement prospects that depend on the successful completion of the national service programme.

The Media Guru further noted that the prolonged uncertainty has created emotional distress, frustration, anxiety, and disappointment among affected graduates and their parents, many of whom made enormous sacrifices to ensure the successful completion of their children’s education. He stressed that every graduate of an accredited tertiary institution deserves timely mobilisation in line with national educational and service regulations.

He therefore called for the immediate repair or replacement of the alleged faulty signature machine, the urgent compilation and transmission of all outstanding graduation lists for eligible students from the affected academic sessions, and the publication of verified names to guarantee transparency, accountability, and fairness throughout the mobilisation process.

Furthermore, he urged the National Board for Technical Education to immediately intervene by conducting an independent assessment of the situation and ensuring that Kaduna Polytechnic complies with all procedures necessary for the mobilisation of eligible graduates. He also appealed to the Federal Ministry of Education and other relevant oversight agencies to prevent further administrative negligence capable of jeopardizing the future of Nigerian students.

Comrade AbdulHakeem additionally called on Uba Sani to urgently intervene in the matter by engaging the management of Kaduna Polytechnic and relevant federal authorities to facilitate a lasting resolution to the crisis. He stated that as the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani has a moral responsibility to support every legitimate effort aimed at protecting the future, welfare, and aspirations of Kaduna youths and students.

He concluded by urging graduates, civil society organizations, education advocates, and members of the public to sustain peaceful advocacy and awareness campaigns through the hashtag #MobiliseKadPolyNow, emphasizing that great institutions are defined not by excuses during difficult moments, but by the urgency, responsibility, and integrity with which they resolve challenges affecting their students and society at large.
