Four Suspects Arrested, Three Locally Made Firearms, 300 Rounds of Ammunition Recovered

BTvNEWS: The Kaduna State Police Command has recorded a series of operational breakthroughs across the state, foiling a suspected kidnapping attempt, arresting four suspects and recovering three locally made firearms, ammunition and other items.

The Command disclosed this in a press release issued on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, detailing separate operations conducted between September 20 and 22 in Makarfi, Gwantu and Giwa Local Government Areas.

The first breakthrough occurred at about 1:15 a.m. on September 20, following a distress call over an attack by armed bandits on a resident in Gimi Ward, Makarfi Local Government Area.

Operatives of the Makarfi Division, supported by local vigilantes, swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the attackers in a gun duel.

According to the Police, the operatives eventually overpowered the attackers, forcing the assailants to retreat into the bush.

One suspect, identified as “Usman Alhaji Dahiru,” a 20-year-old male and native of the area, was wounded during the encounter and subsequently arrested.

Police said they recovered one locally made rifle with three live cartridges, one locally made pistol with one live round and a bag containing charms from the suspect.

The Command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the group.

In another operation on September 21, at about 10:00 p.m., Police operatives in Gwantu Division arrested a suspected firearm possessor following credible intelligence about an individual allegedly moving around the community while intimidating residents with a locally fabricated pistol.

The suspect, identified as “Jude Magaji,” a male resident of Ungwan Asibiti, was tracked and arrested by the operatives, with the alleged firearm recovered from his possession.

Police said he remains in custody as investigators work to establish how he obtained the weapon and whether it has been linked to any criminal activity.

The Command also recorded a significant breakthrough against suspected arms trafficking on September 22.

At about 5:00 p.m., detectives attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit acted on credible intelligence concerning the alleged activities of an arms-trafficking syndicate operating around Giwa Local Government Area and the Railway Station axis of Kaduna State.

Following surveillance and intelligence-led operations, the detectives arrested two suspects identified as “Rayyanu Adamu” and “Nasiru Abubakar.”

A search conducted during the operation reportedly yielded 270 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition and 30 live rounds of Type 06 ammunition, totalling 300 rounds of live ammunition.

The two suspects remain in police custody as investigation continues into the source and intended destination of the ammunition and the possible involvement of other persons in the suspected network.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Rabiu, psc, mni, commended the police operatives and local vigilantes for their prompt response, courage and effective coordination during the operations.

CP Rabiu assured the people of Kaduna State that the Command would continue to sustain its operations against criminal elements and directed the intensification of efforts to apprehend all fleeing suspects.

He also urged members of the public to provide credible and timely information to the Police, stressing the importance of public cooperation in preventing crime and strengthening security across the state.
