President hosts NIMASA DG at State House, backs sustained reforms to drive Nigeria’s blue economy and boost GDP contribution

BTvNEWS: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to reposition Nigeria’s maritime sector as a major driver of economic growth, wealth creation and national development.

President Tinubu gave the assurance on Thursday when he received the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, at the State House, Abuja.

The meeting focused on critical developments in Nigeria’s maritime industry, including the progress recorded by NIMASA over the past two years and the challenges that continue to confront the sector.

Dr. Mobereola briefed the President on the activities and achievements of the agency under his leadership, providing an update on developments within NIMASA and the broader maritime industry.

In response, President Tinubu reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to the sustained development of the maritime sector, describing it as a critical component of Nigeria’s economic transformation agenda.

The President stressed that the creation of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy was a deliberate strategic move by his administration to unlock the vast economic potential of Nigeria’s maritime resources.

According to him, the initiative is designed to ensure that the marine and blue economy contributes significantly to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), while creating greater opportunities for investment, employment and sustainable economic development.

President Tinubu commended NIMASA for the progress recorded so far, but urged the agency’s leadership to sustain the momentum and remain focused on delivering greater impact.

He charged Dr. Mobereola and his management team “not to rest on their oars,” emphasising the need for continued dedication, innovation and effective implementation of policies and programmes capable of transforming Nigeria’s maritime industry.

The President’s engagement with the NIMASA helmsman further underscored the Federal Government’s renewed focus on harnessing Nigeria’s maritime assets and strengthening the sector’s contribution to the nation’s economic diversification and blue-economy agenda.
