BTvNEWS: Alleged vote-buyer with ₦25,963,000 cash in Kaduna metropolis was nabbed by the security operatives, a few hours to the conduct of the bye-elections in parts of the state.

According to the statement released to the media by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan on Saturday.

DSP Mansur Hassan, the Command’s PPRO, stated that the suspect whose name was not revealed in the statement was said to have been apprehended around 3:30am on Saturday by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) at a popular hotel in the metropolis.

The Kaduna State Police Command said preliminary investigation revealed that the huge cash was meant for influencing voters to compromise the electoral process.

Spokesman of the Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, stated that the suspect had already confessed to the crime during interrogation and begged for clemency.

He cited the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, as cautioning that the command would not spare anyone caught aiming to disrupt the electoral process through vote buying, thuggery, violence, or any other illegal conduct.

The Commissioner was quoted as saying, “The suspect was arrested with the said amount, believed to have been earmarked for bribing voters. He confessed to the crime and begged for mercy. We wish to reiterate that anyone found attempting to undermine the electoral process will face the full wrath of the law.”

The Command urged political actors and their supporters to refrain from violence and acts capable of destabilizing the bye-elections.
