Obi Floats Single Tenure Bid for 2027

A New Proposal for Nigeria’s Leadership Future…

By AbdulHakeem Mutiu Adejumo-Ajeseku, Abuja-Nigeria

BTvNEWS: In a significant development ahead of the 2027 elections, on Tuesday Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has submitted a proposal for a single four-year tenure to the opposition coalition for consideration.

This move, confirmed by Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator for the Obidient Movement Worldwide, aims to redefine the country’s leadership structure and promote stability.

According to Tanko, Obi’s proposal is rooted in integrity and a commitment to serving the nation without the burden of seeking re-election, BTV News reports.

The former Anambra governor believes that four years is sufficient to transform the country and rescue its economy from collapse.

Tanko highlighted Obi’s focus on key areas such as electricity stabilization, which he believes can solve a multitude of problems, and his promise to make Nigeria an exporting country again.

The proposal has been submitted to the opposition coalition, which includes prominent figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Senate President David Mark.

Tanko expressed optimism that the coalition will align with Obi’s four-year ambition, citing the former governor’s integrity and preparedness to lead the country.

In a separate development, Obi was recently conferred with the chieftaincy title of ‘Sarki Maskan’ (War Hero) by the Pantami community in Gombe, in recognition of his selfless service and dedication.

Also decorated with the title of ‘Dan Maje Babba Pantanmi’ was the former media aide to Obi, and a commendation letter signed by the District Head of Pantanmi Palace, Mai Martaba Abdullahi.

Tanko explained that Obi’s acceptance of the title was a testament to the growing national acceptance of the former governor, particularly in the North, where he was less favored during the 2023 elections.

He stated: “Obi’s humanitarian efforts in northern Nigeria, including funding borehole projects, supporting entrepreneurship among northern youths, and visiting Almajiri schools, have begun to shift public perception in the region.”

“These gestures have earned Obi deep grassroots support and may indicate a shift in the political tide ahead of 2027, ” he added.

The recognition from Pantami was seen as a “testament to the bridge-building legacy” of Peter Obi, and a sign that his message of unity and development is resonating with Nigerians across different regions.

As the 2027 elections approach, Obi’s proposal for a single tenure and his growing national appeal are likely to be closely watched by political observers and Nigerians alike.
