Nigerian Business Icon, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, Passes Away at 94

BTvNEWS: Renowned Nigerian businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, has died at the age of 94.

Uba Tanko Mijinyawa, Deputy National Treasurer of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), announced his passing via a social media post on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

Dantata’s legacy includes founding Express Petroleum & Gas Company Ltd. and playing a key role in establishing Nigeria’s first non-interest bank, Jaiz Bank. He was also an uncle to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote.

According to Mijinyawa, details of Dantata’s Muslim funeral prayer (Jana’iza) will be announced in due course.

Mijinyawa’s message, written in Hausa, translates to: “Indeed, we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. May Allah have mercy on our father and elder, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata. We pray for his forgiveness. The time of his funeral will be announced.”

Dantata’s Principal Private Secretary, Mustapha Abdullahi Junaid, also confirmed the news, describing Dantata’s passing as a heavy loss.

Junaid prayed for Dantata’s soul to rest in Jannatul Firdaus and for his shortcomings to be forgiven.
