Kaduna Farmers Urge Govt to Provide More Support

Agricultural Growth through Local Empowerment…

BTvNEWS: In a bid to boost agricultural productivity in Kaduna State, local farmers have appealed to the government to channel agricultural grants, loans, fertilizers, and equipment directly to them.

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday with the BTV Correspondent at Kaduna South LGA, specifically at Ungwan Muazu Extension, local farmer Shuaibu Haruna expressed his concerns about the current state of agricultural support in the state.

He said: “We, the local farmers, are the backbone of agriculture in Kaduna State. Without us, the state’s agricultural sector would collapse. Yet, we struggle to access government support.”

“Instead, these resources are often diverted to individuals who have no interest in farming. They may use these resources for other purposes, leaving us, the real farmers, to struggle,” he added.

“I urged the government to prioritize local farmers when allocating agricultural support. If the government truly wants to boost agriculture in Kaduna State, they must ensure that their support reaches us, the local farmers,” he stressed.”

“We are the ones who till the land, plant the crops, and harvest the produce. Without our efforts, there would be no agriculture,” Shuaibu further emphasized.

In a similar vein, Bashir Haruna, another local farmer from Kaduna North LGA, specifically at Kabala Doki, appealed to the government to empower local farmers.

He also said: “The government should provide us with fertilizers, improved seeds, and farm equipment. This would enable us to increase our yield and improve our livelihoods.”

“Loans and grants would enable us to expand our farms and invest in our agricultural activities. However, the process of accessing these resources is often cumbersome and bureaucratic. The government should simplify this process and ensure that the resources reach us,” he added.

“If the government supports us, we would be able to increase our yield and contribute significantly to the state’s economy. This would also create jobs and improve food security in the state,” Bashir stressed.

According to BTV News report, the farmers’ appeals highlight the challenges faced by local farmers in accessing government support. Despite their crucial role in the state’s agricultural sector, local farmers often struggle to access the resources they need to thrive.

“We are hopeful that the government will listen to our pleas and provide us with the necessary support. This would enable us to increase our yield and improve our livelihoods,” Bashir further emphasized.

The farmers’ appeals are a call to action for the government to prioritize agricultural development and support local farmers. By doing so, the government can help unlock the state’s agricultural potential and contribute to its economic growth.

According to the farmers, by supporting them, the government can help ensure food security, create jobs, and contribute to the state’s economic growth.
