As I stood before the silent graves in the cemetery, I was struck by the profound realization that our lives on earth are but a fleeting moment.
We toil to build comfortable homes above ground, but how much effort do we dedicate to our eternal homes beneath the earth?
The Messenger of Allaah (SAW) reminded us that the grave is the first stage of the Hereafter.
If we pass through it safely, what comes after will be easier. But if we do not, then what comes after will be even harder. (Tirmidhi, Hasan)
Our graves will either be a garden from the gardens of Jannah or a pit from the pits of Hell (Jahannam). It is up to us to determine which path we take.
We must prioritize our eternal homes beneath the earth, for it is there that we will spend thousands of years before the Day of Judgment.
So, how do we build a mansion for ourselves beneath the earth? It is through:
- Imaan (faith) that is strong and pure
- Salah (prayer) performed with devotion and presence of heart
- Sawm (fasting) that purifies the soul and earns us closeness to Allaah (SWT)
- Charity that extinguishes our sins like water extinguishes fire
- Helping others by lifting burdens from those in need and being a source of goodness
- Selflessness, truthfulness, righteousness, and sincerity in all that we do
Every good deed is a brick added to our home beneath the earth. Every moment spent remembering Allaah (SWT) expands its space. Every act of kindness illuminates it with light.
Let us not be deceived by this world. It will soon leave us, and we will soon leave it.
What matters is not just how beautiful our home above ground is, but also how well we have built our home beneath it.
This is our real mission – “The Underground Mission.” A mission we must complete while we are still above ground, before we are placed beneath it.
Let every prayer, every act of kindness, and every moment of devotion be an investment in our eternal home.
May Allaah (SWT) grant us graves that are wide and illuminated. May our underground homes be the beginning of our journey to Jannah.
