BosenloTvNEWS: The Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) has taken a significant step towards modernizing its operations by organizing a national digital data capturing exercise for its personnel.
This exercise, which commenced in Kaduna State on Friday January 10, 2024, aims to create a comprehensive database of all VGN members across the country.

According to the Deputy Commander and National ICT Officer, Mr. Yusuf Ibrahim Tanimola, this initiative is designed to replace the old analogue method and prepare the organization for future opportunities with the government.
Kaduna is number 16th state to be captured in the exercise, and Kano will follow suit immediately as the capturing started at the organization’s headquarters in Abuja last year.

The VGN was established in 1983 to combat rising criminal activities by collaborating with sister agencies. Its primary objectives include assisting the Nigeria Police and other sister security agencies in protecting lives and properties, and maintaining peace and order in Nigeria.
The organization has branches across the 774 local government areas in Nigeria, including Chikun, Sanga, Kaura, and Lere, and its personnel are well-trained to provide security services to communities, companies, and individuals.

During an interview, Mr. Yusuf Ibrahim Tanimola expressed his excitement about the exercise, stating that it marks a significant shift from analogue to digital data capturing.
He emphasized that the new system will enable the government to easily verify and access information about VGN personnel, which will facilitate collaboration and enhance security operations.

The National Intelligence Officer of VGN, Mr. Mukhtar Dahiru, advised VGN personnel to work closely with the Nigeria Police, DSS, and Nigeria Army to secure the country against insecurity.
He noted that many VGN members are already working with these agencies in Sokoto and Maiduguri, and that this collaboration has been yielding positive results.

Commanders from various local governments, including Sanga, Kaura, and Chikun, also shared their thoughts on the exercise.
Mr. Joseph M. Anja, Commander of Sanga local government, expressed his happiness with the VGN’s efforts and prayed that the capturing exercise would continue.

Mr. Augustine Mutuwa, Commander of Kaura local government, urged VGN personnel to be patient and diligent on duty, while Mr. Ibrahim Yaro, Commander of Chikun local government, expressed his gladness that the exercise is ongoing.
Some VGN personnel also shared their thoughts on the exercise. Mrs. Adisakutu Tanbaya called on the Federal Government to accept and engage the VGN, while another officer advised VGN members to remain resolute and determined to take the organization to greater heights.

The VGN’s efforts to modernize its operations and enhance its collaboration with government agencies are commendable.
As the organization continues to grow and expand its services, it is essential that it prioritizes the training and development of its personnel to ensure that they are equipped to meet the evolving security challenges in Nigeria.
