Dele Atunbi Advocates For Merit-Based Leadership In NUJ Presidency…
BosenloTvNEWS: Presidential aspirant for the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Dele Atunbi, has emphasized the importance of voting based on merit, rather than regional considerations, in the upcoming elections. During his campaign visit to the NUJ Secretariat in Kaduna on Wednesday, Atunbi condemned calls for zoning the position to the north, stressing that the union’s interest should prioritize members’ welfare, safety, and salaries.

Atunbi highlighted his achievements as Secretary and Chairman of NUJ Ondo State Council and Vice President of Zone B, showcasing his ability to bring professionalism and sanity to the union. He promised to reposition the union, ensure journalists’ respect, safety, and insurance, and implement a salary structure.
Atunbi emphasized that his vision is to bring the union to greater heights, making members respected and valued.
When asked about veterans’ welfare by Veteran Tajudeen Ajibade Tijjani, Atunbi assured that provisions are already included in the NUJ Constitution. He shared his experience in Ondo, where he created a welfare package, encouraging veterans to return to the Secretariat.

Atunbi stressed the need for a transformational leader, rather than a transactional one, stating, “Journalists are not to be referred to as beggars, they should be seen as those moulding the society for greater good.”
His campaign agenda focuses on Media Salary Structure, Continuation of Insurance Policy, and Maintaining NUJ Safety Fund. Atumbi’s vision aligns with the Director General, Rejuvenation Campaign Council’s, call to put presidential candidates on a scale of integrity and competence.
